Hallo zusammen,

in der letzten Woche war ich ein paar Tage bei unseren westlichen Nachbarn in Urlaub und habe beim Besuch eines Intertoys-Ladens das SdJ 2005 "Niagara" dort als "Iguazu" entdeckt. Nun ist mir schon klar, dass man Spiele mit landessprachlichen Titeln (z.B. "De Kolonisten van Catan") besser unter die Leute bringt. Aber gerade bei "Niagara" scheint mir das nicht nötig, wobei mir nebenbei gesagt der Titel "Iguazu" besser gefällt. Weiss jemand, warum man bei Zoch auch diese Spiel umbenannt hat?

The game is being distributed in The Netherlands by 999 Games. From what I have heard the company owner decided that the game was to be called Iguazu instead of Niagara, since diamonds have been found in the Iguazu river and not in the Niagara river.

For a similiar reason the Dutch version of the game Africa by Reiner Knizia has another elephant on the front of the box. According to the owner of 999 Games the elephant on the original version is an Indian elephant and the Dutch version has an African elephant.

Wonderful non-information every player should know...

Especially the thing with gems along the Niagara always seemed suspicious to me, but I couldn't be bothered to check this thing :-)

After comparing with my photos from South Africa I´m nearly sure that it is an African Elephant on my german version of "Africa". Maybe I have a very rare sample of this game ?? :-))

Oder ich bin da einer grossen Sache auf der Spur. "Die weltweite Elefantenverschwörung". Afrika hatte niemals eigene Elefanten. Alle bisherigen Dokumente sind Fälschungen, Fotos werden direkt beim Fotografieren durch versteckte Satellitentechnik umgewandelt, alle Elefantenforscher sind Mitglieder einer weltumspannenden Organisation :-) Da fällt mir ein...ich wollte mir demnächst "Illuminati" zulegen :-)) Ich glaube ich bin jetzt bereit für dieses Spiel :-)

look at the 999-website (www.999games.nl). You can see the cover of the game Niagara with the title "Niagara" and not "Iguazu".

Well there are both versions. One as "distributieproduct", that's the one named "Niagara" and one as normal "spel" named "Iguazu".

Both are the same games, but different labels (and language versions).

So Armands suggestion seems to be sufficient to me.

Mein Mann war 3x im Rahmen seiner Doktorarbeit in Geologie dort und ich war 2x mit. Auf jeden Fall sind wir so begeistert, daß er im Moment fleissig Bewerbungen nach Südafrika, Botswana, Namibia etc. schickt.

The elephant on the German version of Africa has the big ears of an African elephant (Indian elephants have much smaller ears). But with its small
tusks (only stubs) it seems rather young.

The elephant on the Dutch version has big ears and much longer tusks and looks grown-up. That seems to be the only difference. I'm not going into the Niagara-Iguazu thing. Iguazu sounds much more adventurous. ;)

What I never understood, was why the Game in Germany was called Africa instead Afrika. Maybe more stylish. ;)
