Dear Ingo,
Of course, I can't give you an objective recension of my own games, but I can still help you a little.
Castel has two things in common with Ohne Furcht und Adel: the theme, and the high quality of the graphics.
For all the rest, it's a very different game. It's much lighter, more chaotic, more fun, but with less tactics and no bluff.
I like bith games very much, but I think that OFuA is more a gamers game, and Castel more a family or "beer and pretzel" game.
Furthermore, the german translation of Castel is awful. There's a long list of german erratas on my website. I hope that Eurogames will make a new translation, may be even exchange the old wrong cards, but it's not decided yet. If you can manage with english or french text, better try to get the english or french versions of the game, which are error free.
In France and USA, this game sells as well as OFuA, and seems to be very well received. Not the case in Germany, but I think the translation is the first reason.
As far as I know - I've not seen them - my two other games by Descartes, Democrazy (a chaotic made with K.H. Schmiel) and Corruption (a bluff game of the Razzia / Manitou / Republica Bananas family) are well translated.
