Hoi Benno,
Ich kann Deutsch lehsen, aber nicht schreiben. Oder ist dies nicht falsch geschrieben?
Aber antworten in Deutsch ist zu schwer. Also in Engels:
Your idea came up with the prototype too, and is tried a few times. But it made that players did think longer. With so many possibilities it can take much longer to see if you can connect your letter. You can imagine that it makes it easier to see a word, but the words will be longer in general what makes it more difficult to add a letter. The 'dificulty-equilibrium' will be logically approximately the same in both versions, while the extra possibility in your suggestion makes the playtime seriously longer. That was at least the experience with the prototype.
So the playtime was the main reason. Further it's a good variation rule. I didn't try it with a stopwatch with 30 seconds or so think-time. Maybe that helps to hold the game faster. It depends on the players too.
Another variant rule we tried with the prototype but was condemned as main rule after some time, but now I regret that. It's the way we played it in the booths and it works without pen and paper. In the meantime I started to like this variant better than the normal rules. Hereunder that variant.
VARIANT RULE
- Goal: Be the first with 0 cards in your hand.
- Instead of writing minus points you get cards from the discarded row into your hand of cards when you can't connect your letter.
If the discarded row has 1 or 2 cards (this doesn't happen normally), then you take 1 card from the right side of the row into your hand of cards. The other card(s) of the row (left side) go out of the game.
If the row had 3 or 4 cards, then you add the last 2 cards of that row to your hand.
If the row had 5 or 6 cards, then you add the last 3 cards of that row to your hand.
If the row had 7 or 8 cards, then you add the last 4 cards of that row to your hand.
And so on. The first card(s) of the row (left side) go out of the game.
- Number of cards per player at the start:
2 players: 14 cards. 3 players: 13 cards. 4 players: 12 cards. 5 players: 11 cards. 6 players: 10 cards.
With this variant rule the number of cards in your hand will differ between players during the game. Fewer cards in your hand means that you are closer to the victory but have less many options.
Groeten,
Corné
