Well, the difference:
In D&D, you have a mage, a warrior and a rogue. You're about to loot a dead princes tomb for his money, but it's guarded by 5 goblins. The mage throws a fireball at the goblins and kills 3 of them, the warrior kills another and the rogue stabs the last one. You go the next room and see an Orc. He attacks you, you fight back, but your warrior is badly wounded. The mage heals him and you move on.
In WFRP, you have a red journeyman wizard, a pit fighter and a thief. You're going to ransack a prince’s tomb so that the mage can afford tuition in the colleges of magic, but the rogue and warrior have agreed to slit the mages throat as soon as they get the loot.
You come across 5 goblins; the mage starts to cast a spell, but rolls a double. He glows with an eerie light for 2 minutes, spooking the goblins and causing 2 to flee. The rogue panics and lunges for the mage, intent on ending his vile spell. The warrior turns, distracted by the unfolding drama and a Goblin seizes the opening. Clubbing the warrior to the ground with it's axe. The rogue looks up from the dead mage, feeling smug knowing he has just saved himself and his comrade. He turns, sees his unconscious friend lying on the floor, blood pooling around him, and the 2 goblins above him, grinning wickedly.
It ends there :)
The difference, from what I know at least, is that in WFRP you Role-play, whereas in D&D you roll-play.
WFRP gives you an ex-town guard, determined to avenge his dead sister who was raped by criminals. D&D gives you a heroic knight, intent on slaying the dragon that is ruining a village’s crop.
