How do you become an effective team leader in a sales department?

I’m stepping into a role where I’ll be guiding a smaller sales group, and I want to do it right. I’ve been part of teams with great leaders and teams with weak ones, so I know how big the difference can be. What does it take to actually lead a sales team effectively from day one?

I’m not looking for vague advice like “be confident” or “set a good example.” I want practical direction — things that genuinely help a leader support the team, communicate clearly, and keep everyone aligned without micromanaging.
